Sago Palm Plant Alert - Toxic to Cats & Dogs

Sago Palm Plant Kills Puppy

...Since 2003, the ASPCA has seen an increase by more than 200 percent of sago palm and cycad poisonings, and 50 to 75 percent of those ingestions resulted in fatalities. According to Dr. Sharon Gwaltney-Brant, veterinary toxicologist and vice president of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, all parts of the plant are toxic, not just the seeds or nuts, and common signs of ingestion include vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, depression, seizures and liver failure...

Heartworm Alert

Sadly, one of my client's dog was recently diagnosed with Heartworm Disease, is currently hospitalized and being successfully treated.

The treatment for (potentially fatal) Canine Heartworm Disease is long, arduous, and costly, requiring hospitalization and several months of recovery time. (There is NO approved treatment for Heartworm in Cats.)

But PREVENTION of Heartworm Disease is simple and inexpensive!

If you haven't been giving your dog (or cat) her monthly dose of Heartworm Preventative (year-round!), the first step is to have your Veterinarian give a simple blood test to ensure that there are no Heartworms currently present in her system. Once the blood test comes back negative, simply give a monthly dose of Heartworm Preventative (such as a Heartgard soft chew - Lucas thinks it's a treat!) to ensure that your pet is protected.

You can purchase Heartgard and other Heartworm Preventative products from your Veterinarian or one of many online discount pet medication suppliers (a prescription from your Vet is usually required) .

Please take this simple step to protect your pet from this painful and potentially fatal disease!

"It's Me or the Dog"

HURRAY!

FINALLY!
A Positive Dog Training Show on TV!

If you haven't seen "It's Me or the Dog" yet, program your TiVo!

New episodes air Saturdays @ 9 PM, but you can find older episodes being re-aired on Animal Planet all the time.

Trainer Victoria Stillwell uses proven Positive Reinforcement Training techniques on her show "It's Me or the Dog" to solve a wide range of unwanted dog behavior issues, from coprophagia (poop eating!) to severe aggression.

Victoria does not resort to force-based, aversive techniques or macho intimidation tactics to "control" dogs' behavior. Instead, Victoria uses Positive, gentle, intelligent dog training to directly address the root causes of problem behaviors and actually transform the dogs' underlying feelings and therefore their behavior. She also gives her clients clear, practical exercises to work on with their dogs. (No vague doggie psycho-babble here.)

While there are some differences in our techniques, Victoria and I are definitely from the same camp as far as our Positive Dog Training approach.

This is absolutely the BEST dog training show on TV, and I encourage you all to watch it!
